Gastrointestinal & iron infusion services
Care for chronic digestive disorders has moved beyond only treating symptoms. Many gastroenterologists now aim for mucosal healing and long-term control of inflammation—often with biologic or targeted therapies delivered by infusion when pills are not enough or the gut cannot absorb them reliably.
At CarePoint Infusion Center in Beachwood, we administer physician-ordered IV therapies for patients across Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, and Northeast Ohio. We work with your gastroenterology team; we do not replace your GI doctor. Our role is safe outpatient infusion nursing, scheduling, and coordination with your prescriber and pharmacy benefits.
Why IV therapy for GI conditions?
Moderate-to-severe inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and related conditions often need consistent, effective treatment. Infusion therapy offers advantages when oral therapy falls short:
- Full bioavailability: Medication enters the bloodstream directly, bypassing an inflamed or compromised digestive tract.
- Reliable dosing during flares: Vomiting, diarrhea, and malabsorption can make oral doses unpredictable; IV delivery provides the ordered dose.
- Targeted biologic action: Many modern GI infusions are biologics that block specific immune pathways linked to chronic gut inflammation.

Conditions we support with infusion therapy
Crohn's disease
IV biologics and supportive care when your gastroenterologist orders infusion-based treatment to reduce inflammation and maintain remission.
Ulcerative colitis
Gut-directed and systemic biologic infusions, including gut-selective options such as Entyvio (vedolizumab), per your treatment plan.
Iron deficiency anemia
Very common in IBD due to bleeding and malabsorption. We provide IV iron infusion when oral iron is not tolerated or not effective.
Related GI needs

Our specialized GI infusion treatments
Your exact regimen is determined by your gastroenterologist. Below are categories and examples we commonly administer when ordered:
1. Biologic & anti-inflammatory therapies
We provide nursing monitoring for biologic medications used to induce and maintain remission in Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, including:

2. Dedicated iron infusion services
Iron deficiency anemia is frequent among GI patients—driven by chronic blood loss, inflammation, and poor absorption. Oral iron often causes nausea, constipation, or abdominal upset, and may not replete stores quickly during active disease.
We administer FDA-approved IV iron formulations so iron bypasses the stomach entirely. Many patients notice improved energy over the weeks after treatment as stores rebuild.

- Low ferritin with normal hemoglobin: iron deficiency without anemia

3. Hydration, nutrition support & antibiotics (when ordered)
Severe flare-ups can deplete fluids and electrolytes. When your care team orders supportive IV therapy, we can help restore balance and monitor you during treatment.
- IV hydration: Fluids and electrolytes for dehydration related to acute GI illness, when prescribed.
- Specialized nutrition: Parenteral nutrition or related IV nutrition may be arranged when your physician and care plan require it—we coordinate per order.
- IV antibiotics: For selected severe GI-related infections when outpatient IV therapy is appropriate. For long-course therapy, compare infusion center vs. home IV antibiotics.

The CarePoint experience
Starting infusion therapy can feel overwhelming. Our ambulatory suite is designed as an alternative to a busy hospital ward—focused on comfort, predictability, and clinical safety.
Before your infusion
Your gastroenterologist sends orders and recent labs. Our team verifies insurance, obtains prior authorization when required, and contacts you with appointment details and any pre-visit instructions. If you have an active infection (for example, flu or significant fever), your prescriber may delay biologic treatment—follow their guidance.
During your visit
- Check-in and vital signs with experienced infusion nurses
- IV placement and medication administration per your written order
- Monitoring throughout the infusion and a brief observation period afterward
- Comfortable reclining chairs, Wi-Fi, and complimentary snacks and beverages
How long will my appointment take?
Depending on the drug and your individualized protocol, plan for roughly 30 minutes to 2 hours, including nursing assessment and post-infusion monitoring. Maintenance biologics are often scheduled every few weeks per your prescriber's plan.

Myths vs. facts
| Myth | Clinical fact |
|---|---|
| IBD is caused only by stress or diet. | Stress and diet can trigger flares, but Crohn's and ulcerative colitis are complex immune-mediated diseases influenced by genetics and other factors. |
| Biologic infusions are only a last resort. | Biologics are standard tools to control inflammation, heal the gut lining, and reduce long-term complications when indicated by your specialist. |
| Crohn's disease and IBS are the same. | IBD causes structural inflammation and tissue damage; irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional disorder without the same inflammatory injury pattern. |
